Nissan Terrano is a smart and practical compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that owes its origin to its French cousin, the Renault Duster. But visually, there are many points of distinction. Barring the rear fender and the roof, none of Terrano’s body panels are identical to those of the Duster. It stays true to its Nissan DNA by a generous display of chrome on the grille and trapezoid chrome strips on either side of a bold Nissan logo. The other notable differences prima facie are the aluminium-brushed door handles, roof rails and the large tail lamp cluster which fleshes up the rear much more than that of the Duster. The fender at the back is a feature that both share and this coupled with the flared wheel arches gives it a domineering SUV appeal. Check for Nissan Terrano price in Hyderabad at Tryaldrive.

The creases on the bonnet start from the front grille, which also has a silver bash-plate on the other side adding to the overall masculine look. Its design is quite similar to that of the new X-Trail and Pathfinder. Nissan Terrano has entered one of the fastest growing automobile segments with not only impeccable looks and features, but also with one of the most dependable platforms. Terrano is available in both Petrol and Diesel versions. There are 6 colours available in all variants of Nissan Terrano – Pearl White, Sapphire Black, Bronze Grey, Fire Red, Sterling Grey and Blade Silver.

Nissan Terrano Style

The changes to the outside are subtle and could be easily missed even by experienced enthusiasts. The front remains identical with the same Nissan Pathfinder inspired grille with two chunky chrome slats. However, a little tweak to the grille can be seen. The 4-pod designed sharp headlights and the detailed fog lamp styling are also intact. The car’s v-shaped bonnet integrates perfectly with the signature grille.

However, move around and the new thing you will found is the revamped side mirrors which can now be electrically operable. The ORVMs now also feature turn indicators. The side continues to boast the elegant profile with blackened B and C pillar along with the stylish set of 16-inch machined alloy wheels. The roof rails indicate that the car is made for exploring terrains. The rear boasts of similar styling with rear combination tail lamps extending on to the tailgate. The prominent chrome bar sitting atop the number plate looks quite stylish. Overall, the carmaker has provided delicate updates this time around, may be its approach is based on don’t fix if ain’t broken. For more information on Nissan Terrano  check Tony-allen

Nissan Terrano Space

The majority of the changes in the 2017 version are given to the cabin. The first difference instantly evident is the new dual toned black and chocolate brown interior theme replacing the earlier beige scheme. The new colour scheme might have been given to hide those dirts and grimes in a better way. Another noticeable aspect or say the most demanding one is the new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The unit is slick to operate with large icons but in terms of resolution display, it is not the best out there. The system also supports navigation along with the facility of USB, Bluetooth, and Aux-in connectivity. The decibels are offered by 4-speakers. Strangely, contemporary features such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay has been conspicuously missed out. Even cars below the segment are offering these features.

The Nissan Terrano comes with a different steering wheel than that of Duster with silver finished inserts lending it a more upmarket feel. But this time around, the carmaker has added audio controls on the steering as well as controls for cruising. The driver gets new foldable armrest while the door pads get soft-touch insert. Moreover, the centrally mounted rear ac vents seen in the earlier model has now been replaced by cupholder. Other additional features in the new model include anti-pinch driver-side window, speed limiter, and one-touch turn indicators. The instrument cluster is redesigned which provides a plethora of information such as fuel efficiency, average speed, distance to empty as well as information on liters consumed which is quite unique.

Besides, the Terrano retains all the positives of the cabin. This includes the spacious interiors with utter comfortable seats and the roominess seems to be complementing the new colour scheme. There is enough room for three passengers at the back while the huge trunk is more than enough to dump those large bags you are carrying for longer journeys. In terms of features, the car remains intact with the air conditioner with pollen filter, rear glass washer, lumbar support, and seat height adjustment, 12V socket at both front and rear passengers, trunk room lamp and reading lamps for rear passengers.

Nissan Terrano Gearbox

The 2018 Nissan Terrano comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces about 108bhp of power. This engine comes mated to a six-speed AMT box that will send power to the front wheels. This engine and transmission is shared with the Duster AMT too. At the moment, it is majorly the Datsun brand that is churning out sales for the company. This engine is noisy, however the vibration and harshness isn’t very high. The performance is more than sufficient and it even has good torque. The AMT is also quite responsive. The regular 1.5-litre diesel engine with five-speed and six-speed manual transmission will be on offer too. At the same time, the 1.6-litre petrol engine shall also continue on sale as well.

The ARAI claimed fuel efficiency for the 2018 Nissan Terrano is 19.1 km/l. This being 108bhp and 6-speed AMT, the fuel efficiency is good enough. Nissan is offering the Terrano AMT with this diesel engine only. There won’t be one with a lower powered diesel or even the petrol engine either.

Nissan Terrano Driving

The Japanese automaker has hit the sweet spot when it comes to ride and handling, thanks to the well-tuned suspension. The car is able to flatten the road undulations like cars costing around Rs. 35 lakhs. Though there is certain amount of stiffness it’s acceptable and within the limits. One need not slow down for a bad road, especially if the speed is high. There is negligible rear end bounciness with the damper and springs so well-tuned that the suspension set-up glides over cracked roads quite efficiently. In almost all driving conditions, the body roll is well controlled.

Nissan Terrano Safety

Nissan Terrano boasts of a staunch and robust braking system. The front wheels of the compact SUV are incorporated with discs which make braking deft. While the front axle of the SUV has an independent McPherson strut type of mechanism with a coil spring and also a highly advanced anti-roll bar; the rear axle gets a torsion beam axle along with coil springs and a similar anti-roll bar for enhanced comfort for the rear passengers. Both these systems put together ensure that the passengers as well as the SUV are stable at all times. The top-end versions of the Terrano are equipped with the sophisticated Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) along with electronic brake force distribution technology, coupled with brake assist and a stability control module to further upgrade the braking mechanism of the SUV. Other safety features comprise of an engine immobilizer, central locking, driver seat belt reminder, doors-not-well-closed reminder, rear defogger, reverse parking sensor and a heated tailgate glass warning light.

Nissan Terrano Final Thought

The Indian auto market is in for a treat from Nissan in the form of a fuel-efficient SUV named Terrano that is superior to its French cousin Renault Duster. The Renault-Nissan consortium has an agreement that the donor car will be positioned below the new model and hence the prices of the Terrano are higher as compared to the Duster. The good news for Indians is that the difference between the Terrano and its French cousin is a meagre 40,000 even for the top variant in India for price sensitivity is high in India.

The few things that differentiate the Terrano from the Duster include looks, ergonomics and interior quality – all of which rank high on any buyer’s priority list. This compact crossover competes with the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV500, Tata Safari Storme, Force One and the Mahindra Scorpio in India. Terrano comes with the age-old Nissan branding that is being used since the 80s across the globe. Akin to the sale pattern of Duster, Terrano is targeted primarily at the developing countries of the world. It is not just a cosmetically enhanced version of Renault Duster but has robust underpinnings. On the flip side, it weighs a mammoth 100 kilograms more than Renault Duster and all that seems like unnecessary bulk. Sadly, weight is inversely proportional to efficiency. Terrano has marvellous looks and its dimensional compactness can be highly advantageous.

The exterior is remarkable and unlike the interior, it doesn’t display the work of cost cutting. The paint quality is nice and the bonnet is robust. Contrary to popular SUV styling, Terrano is more plush and refined and this makes it an ideal lifestyle SUV. Nissan Terrano is priced between 9.6 L and 12.9 L as per the variant chosen and the on-road price differs from one State to another. It is an enthralling drive and its performance is unrivalled. Given its reasonable pricing and efficient engine, this SUV is a must buy.
